Groups and coalitions

After the European Parliament elections, political groups were formed between like-minded national groups of MEPs. These Groups are important in terms of positions and power in the Parliament - and access to funding to provide information to constituents and recruit staff. They also give access to facilities in the Parliament.

However, no one Group has an overall majority - so coalitions have to be built for legislation to pass.
